Battery Tips, Tricks & Facts

Oct 07, 2020

Batteries are used in all our favourite household items like remotes, controllers, toys, flashlights and cameras. We’ve used batteries for so many years that sometimes we forget they’re energy sources and need to be cared for.

You always want to have extra batteries in the house. Picture waking up on Christmas morning, your children open their presents and can’t wait to play with their brand new toy. Then you look at the box that reads “Batteries not included”. Save the stress and keep a few extra in house to keep the good times rolling and the tears away.

Philips Alkaline batteries are easy to store in your home. It’s important to keep them at room temperature and a relatively low humidity zone so you can  keep them fresh and their battery power to the fullest. Do not freeze or put alkaline batteries in the fridge because this can affect their usage and strength.

You should always store your batteries in a container when you take them out of the package. If you keep them loose in your purse or pocket, they could rub up against coins or other metal objects, resulting in the batteries short circuiting or could potentially even leak.

It’s important to keep battery ends clean. Gently rub the positive and negative ends of a battery with a clean cloth or a pencil eraser to make sure there isn’t any residue or other particles stuck to the ends. If there is, this could not only damage your device but also create a dangerous situation.

When it’s time to change your device's batteries, remove them all. You should never use old and new batteries together or mix brands of batteries because this could cause leakage or rupture.

Never throw your batteries in the garbage can. When you throw out batteries, they are taken to landfills with the rest of your trash. Batteries can then leak into the ground and cause environmental damage or get into water supplies. It’s so important to properly recycle your batteries so they’re properly disposed of and most importantly, it’s done safely.

When you purchase Philips new series batteries they stay fresh for up to 10 years, when used and stored properly. This helps get rid of excess battery waste and keeps your devices running longer than our competitors.
