The Evolution of Philips

Oct 01, 2020

Philips aims to bring the world some of the most innovative products out there. We distribute Philips batteries but our parent company does so much more.

Philips started out in 1891 in Europe. From 1891-1915 they worked on creating some of the first light sources ever made. They produced Carbon-Filament lamps and were one of the largest producers in Europe.

From 1915-1925 Philips evolved their brand and launched a medical X-Ray tube. Picture an X-Ray machine you see in every hospital nowadays. Well in the early 1900's, we weren't fortunate enough to have the technology we have today. An X-Ray tube was the bright light source that allowed doctors to take photos of their patients to figure out what was wrong.

Philips had no borders on what they could produce. During the same time frame they not only became a leader in the healthcare industry, but they also established markets all over Europe, Australia, Brazil and China.

1927-1940 was a big time for Philips. This timeframe is when they really got involved in the electronics industry. In 1927 Philips launched their first radio and within five years they sold over 1 million units, making them the largest radio manufacturer in the world!

In 1938 they unveiled their first television and in1939 they wanted to take some of the stress away from men when shaving their faces, so Philips launched their first electric  shaver, the PhiliShave.

Philips had no borders on what they could produce. During the same time frame they not only became a leader in the healthcare industry, but they also established markets all over Europe, Australia, Brazil and China.

1940-1970 was full of technology breakthroughs for the brand! From 1940-1950 Philips researched transistors and integrated circuits, leading the way for this technology.

In 1949 they introduced Philips Synchrocyclotron, which allowed some of the first research in the world about malignant tumors.

Today our music and recordings are all sourced online. We download, upload and use our phones for just about anything we can. Back in the day, cassette tapes not only played music but they were also used for tape recording. You could record conversations on tapes, radio stations broadcasted using tapes and so much more. Philips launched the compact audio cassette, which led the global standard for tape recording!

1970-1980 Philips contributed to creating energy saving lamps. During this time energy consumption was high on everyone's minds and this may have been one of the first cost effective forms of electricity.

Since the beginning Philips has had some of the worlds best researchers. Their research led to the invention of optical telecommunication systems, the LaserVision optical disc, and the Compact Disc.

1980-1990- In 1982 Philips partnered with Sony to officially launch the Compact Disc. This was a big deal because it was the first time in history you could record sound without background noise.

1990-2000 This was a big decade for Philips because they created a goal to make medical systems easier for doctors to use and more comfortable for patients.

In 1997 Philips partnered with Sony again and they launched the first ever DVD. This product became the fastest growing household electronic product in history.

In the early 1900's Philips got their start in the healthcare industry. By the 21st century they created some of the most ground breaking technology to help hospital staff and their patients. In 2002 Philips created the Ambient Experience which improves hospitals’ workflow and patient care by integrating architecture, design, dynamic lighting and sound. In 2006 they launched the commercial 3D scanner. This improved image quality in CT scans like never before.

In 2012, almost a millennium after they launched the X-Ray Tube, Philips created the AlluraClarity interventional X-ray system. This provides some of the most clear images and keeps radiation levels safe.

Philips has been around for years and will be here for years to come. They’ve created life saving technology and some of the best entertainment technologies that we still use to this day.

Long story short, we're proud to distribute products for an award winning, record breaking, innovative company.
